History
The Great Smoky Mountains are among the Highest peaks in the Appalachian Mountain Range. They stretch through the border of Tennessee and North Carolina. The mountain range consists of 187,000 acres of forest and is also home to the heaviest population of black bears in the Eastern United states. The Smoky Mountains are also known as the "Smokies" and the range got its name from the thick fog that hangs over the peak of the range. |
Black BearsThe climate of the Smoky Mountains is perfect for the dense population of black bears in the smokies. Scientists estimate that there are at least 1,500 black bears living in the Smoky Mountains. The bears in the smokies can live up to 12-15 years and also grow up to about 250 pounds.
